Our Worcester care home staff member, Matron & Manager Pat Morris, recently marked her 60th birthday and what once would have been her retirement coming of age, with a celebratory trip to Australia to see her daughter, also a nurse.
In reality, she isn’t retiring, but whilst reflecting on the fact that once upon a time this would have been the case, she decided it was cause for occasion to celebrate her big birthday in style! We are delighted that she isn’t retiring – she’s been such an integral member of our Worcester care home staff for nearly 30 years!
With no intentions of hanging up her uniform, our Worcester care home staff matron Pat went off to Oz to celebrate in style…
And, it seems that the Aussie sunshine and the refreshing sea-breeze of the sunshine coast resulted in a renewed zest for work for our Pat. And, although now at the age where once people would have retired, she is now looking forward to work more than ever before. Which is great news for us, since she is such a highly regarded member of our Worcester care home staff.
What’s interesting about this story is that, at the age of 60, Pat is resolute that she is not giving up work yet – years ago this would have been the norm, but Pat says she feels too alive to stop working now! It’s something which had got me thinking about how times change.
For many of the residents who Pat cares for at Stanfield Nursing Home, retiring at 60 would have been par for the course. And yet, here we are, with one of their main care providers still utterly full of enthusiasm and energy for the profession she loves, to the point that she feels retiring would be absurd.
I am in awe of the dedication and passion for our care home Worcester, shown not just by Pat, but all of our staff members. They are the reason that our Worcester care home is full of just that, care. It’s their commitment to delivering at the highest levels of the profession, ensuring the health, happiness and safety of our residents is always at the heart of everything they do, which really brings our residential care home ethos to life.
And, it seems this ethos is self-perpetuating. I am proud to say our staff retention levels are excellent and reflect that Stanfield Nursing Home is a place which attracts the best people to work and is somewhere they end up wanting to stay. This in itself has enormous benefits for our residents as it means we can provide outstanding continuity of care. Indeed, all of our staff take a personal interest in all of our nursing home residents and, from my own previous experience, I am convinced this simply wouldn’t happen if our staff retention levels weren’t as strong as they are.
I’d just like to take this opportunity to say, Pat we are delighted you have decided to remain as Matron of our Worcester care home staff. And, in addition, I’d like to thank all of our other staff members for their commitment to the professionalism that continues to deliver the best care for our residents here at Stanfield Nursing Home.
