This blog is part of my recently commissioned series of videos showcasing the ethos and daily life at Stanfield Nursing Home. I hope it helps you learn more about the daily ebb and flow at our care home near Worcester.
When people come into the nursing home looking for residential care, one of the things they’ll often ask me is what goes on in the day?
And it might seem very simple but my answer is always, it’s very much like a family home.
So what we’re trying to do everyday at our care home near Worcester is mirror what might go on in somebody’s home.
People will get up at the time that’s appropriate to them.
So, we often care for farmers and they’re invariably up around about five or six because that’s the time they would have got up.
We’ve had people who have never risen until 11 o’clock and that’s what they’ve done all their lives.
So we’re trying to mirror what goes on in their own home.
There’s a natural rhythm in our care home near Worcester
People are getting up in the morning … the level of support varies in how much they need us.
We are continually trying to promote their independence.
So, encouraging them to wash and dress wherever possible.
We encourage our home residents to be independent with their meals, but we may need to help or supervise them to make sure that they are completing their meals, and, especially, that they are staying hydrated.
And then the rhythm of the day goes on…
People are visiting our care home Worcester. We do promote open visiting. Our first visitor to our care home near Worcester usually arrives around about 8 o’clock. They’re having a cup of tea on the way to work with their loved one. Our last one leaves around about 11 o’clock at night.
It usually takes around about sort of two to three months for people to get used to this very relaxed atmosphere.
In addition we’ve got activities going on and you name it, we do it here.
It’s very relaxed during the day and the key to that is the number of staff we have on duty. So that the people don’t actually feel rushed in any nursing care situation.
