This blog forms part of my recently commissioned series of videos. In this interview, Pauline, our Activities Coordinator, takes you through our Worcester care home daily life and activities in more detail.
Our care home Worcester, Stanfield Nursing Home is a home from home.
My second home.
For me, I spend as much time here as I do with my own family so this is my second family.
I enjoy what I do and I’ve got all these extra nannies and granddads and aunties and uncles and family.
One of the challenges for me here and for the job that I do is I don’t want to just sit and read the paper, I want to have fun and I want to grow old absolutely disgracefully and have fun like I would with anybody else!
Our Worcester care home daily life incorporates so many things…
So, we play ball and we have games and we have quizzes and we have banter.
If it’s nice outside we’ll go and sit outside and read a book. I’ll read or we’ll play games.
We can do anything from football to … gardening, we like gardening. We’re definitely learning as veggie growers. We’re getting good at that.
As part of our Worcester care home daily life, we like to make stuff.
When our residents were children you couldn’t go and buy stuff off a shelf.
You’d make it. If you wanted it you make it so that’s the plan.
If we want it and we can’t find it, we’ll make it.
In my opinion, when families make the decision to put a resident here or anywhere else I think there’s a guilt factor.
I want the families to come and see that the residents here have as much fun as they can possibly have.
When they go out the door, they are thinking, good they’re having more fun than I am.
You don’t come into here and that’s the end of what happens. For me, I see it as just the next adventure, and I want to be part of that adventure.
When they smile and you sit and they say something really unique it’s an amazing feeling because you go home and you think, yeah I’ve had a good day.
I think that the exceptional thing about Stanfield is it’s not just about the residents, although they are priority, it is about the family and the whole package.
That includes the staff, the residents, the family, and anybody else that walks through the door.
