Halloween Activities at Stanfield Nursing Home
Stanfield Nursing Home residents started their Halloween activities a couple of weeks ago in preparation for this spooky night!
Activities are part of daily life at Stanfield Nursing Home. We encourage those we care for to participate in activities, hobbies and interests that they enjoyed before they came to live with us. Planning daily activities can make all the difference for those we care for. More fun can be had, a better atmosphere can be created, and there are more interactions with staff as well.
We started with a therapeutic day of colouring! Arts and crafts are a regular occurrence in our care home activities calendar. Residents were colouring Halloween templates, cutting ghostly paper chains, and much more. The use of colouring as a nursing home activity is very powerful. Doodling is very relaxing and can help ease irritation. Additionally, it can improve the social aspects of care homes, being very inclusive.
To continue the arts and crafts activities in our nursing home, we helped residents make Halloween decorations over the course of two days. We provide regular opportunities for those we care for to express their creativity. Activities like these offer cognitive stimulation and an opportunity to socialise with individuals who value a similar activity. Stanfield looked lovely with the creations. We had many spiders crawling and bats flying around the corridors!
Finally, Halloween activities in our nursing home wouldn’t be complete without pumpkin carving. There were many creative designs with creepy eyes and pointy fangs!
Nursing Home Activities On Important Dates
Stanfield Nursing Home provide a range of activities each month, such as:
- Relaxation with hand-massages
- Scarecrow making for harvest
- Move time in the musical genre
- Board games
- Musical entertainment from our visiting team of entertainers
Often, we will adapt certain activities around special dates and holidays in the year. For example, on National Poetry Day we set up a session to read through some of our resident’s favourite poems. This is a wonderful way to share interests and reminisce together. Each year in September we organise a Macmillan Coffee Morning and invite family members to join us for tea, coffee and a cake!
Celebrating Halloween in our nursing home is no different. Each year we organise different spooky-themed activities around this. It can provide an excellent way to stimulate our minds and engage in the social aspects of activities. This is very beneficial to things like improving mental health and boosting cognitive function. It is also a great way for residents to keep track of their day-to-day lives by it being punctuated with meaningful events.
