March 20th is this year’s International Day of Happiness. As we face a global crisis together, let’s find positive ways to look after ourselves and each other. The Day of Happiness website has some great tips on staying positive! They have also released a ‘Coping Calendar’ which Stanfield Nursing Home have been following with the people we care for. This provides a 30-day program with daily activities to keep calm, stay wise and be kind.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been doing so far…

2nd March
“Enjoy washing your hands. Remember all they do for you!”
In our care home in Worcester, we have been using a Glitterbug machine for the past two years to make washing hands more fun! It illuminates bacteria remaining on your hands after washing them and staff and the people we care for have all said they enjoy washing their hands a lot more when using this. You can read more about this process in one of our previous blogs.

4th March
“Stay hydrated, eat health food and boost your immune system.”
This is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to provide people with healthy, balanced meals and our professional chef and his team prepares all of our meals from scratch! We take pride in using good quality, fresh, and local ingredients. Our meat comes from our local butcher and our fruit and vegetables come from the farm shop at the end of our lane. You can read more about our nutritional support on our website.

5th March
“Get active. Even if you’re stuck indoors, move & stretch.”
Whether it’s potting in the garden, listening to music or just collecting the daily newspaper, activities at Stanfield Nursing Home can take many forms. Over the course of lockdown we’ve changed how we run certain activities. Chair-based exercises, like yoga, help keep residents physically active and socially distanced! Check out our other activities here.

You can check out the rest of our Coping Calendar activities for this month on our social media. Here’s a quick list of what to look forward to in the coming weeks:

  • Notice five beautiful things around you
  • Play a game you enjoyed when younger
  • Rediscover your favourite music
  • Learn something new
  • Do three acts of kindness
