This year Stanfield Nursing Home was unfortunately unable to host our usual Macmillan Coffee Morning on the 25th of September.

This year Covid-19 has drastically changed the way we provide care. Since the beginning of this pandemic we have received regular PPE equipment and training. Using our Glitterbug machine we have increased hygiene checks alongside thorough cleaning of the home. A few months ago we closed our doors to regular visitors, families, and friends to ensure the safety of our residents.

As a result we have adapted how we run things inside the home. We have been able to run all regular activities, excluding visiting entertainers. These include our arts and crafts sessions, exercising to music, poetry readings, discussion forums, and many more! We even developed new activities by incorporating new technology. People are now able to play app games and video call their loved ones on our tablets. All our events and daily activities take place socially distanced. You can find out more about these activities here.

However, due to these new regulations we made the decision to not participate in this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning. With the increasing number of Covid-19 cases across the UK, we wanted to ensure the safety of the people we support and care for first and foremost. Please see our previous blogs on our coronavirus response and health updates from the home.

Last year we invited residents and loved ones in for a morning of tea and scrumptious cake, made by both visitors and members of staff! It was wonderful to have everyone come together and raise money for a good cause. Last year Macmillan raised a total of £27,461,814. This can fund 516 Macmillan nurses for a whole year! We understand the importance of thanking all the heroes in the NHS this year and will continue to give back to their efforts for years to come. Looking forward to next year’s coffee morning!
