Once a week at our dementia care home in Worcester, the female residents at Stanfield Nursing Home get to treat themselves at our Ladies Pamper Day.

Organised by our activities coordinator, the Ladies Pamper Day is a key part of our care home activities programme and a firm favourite with our care home residents.

During the day we have Pauline and Helen come in to deliver a range of pampering and beauty treatments to our ladies, of their choice.

Residents can choose from a wide selection, including having their nails done, pedicures, foot spas, facials and hand massages.

When the pamper team arrive, the ladies at our dementia care home in Worcester then get to choose what treatments they would like on the day.

The pamper day goes down a treat with our ladies. Moving to a care home can be a daunting prospect for both residents and their families. It can represent a loss of one’s identity and independence. This can be exacerbated where illness further impedes a person’s ability to be able to continue to do the everyday things they normally once did.

Bringing activities such as the Ladies Pamper Day into our home, helps to bring a sense of normality into life at our care home Worcester. Many of our ladies would have regularly treated themselves to getting their nails done or having a pedicure as part of their own self-care routine.

Being able to continue to do so is an important part of maintaining a lifestyle as close to that which they would have had prior to joining us at our dementia care home in Worcester.

I’m sure we all recognise how a bit of pampering and a treat helps to lift one’s spirits. It’s no different here at Stanfield Nursing Home and our Ladies Pamper Days are a great way of helping our residents feel themselves.

Pampering At Our Dementia Care Home in Worcester Has A Bigger Role To Play Too

As well as helping our ladies feel glam the experience at our specialist dementia care home Worcester also provides an opportunity for social interaction beyond the everyday faces at our home.

Being able to have a natter with the therapists and interact is as welcome a part of the day as the treatments are themselves. Not only that but the treatments are inherently relaxing, which really helps with keeping stress and anxiety levels under control.

Managing stress and anxiety levels is important for anyone’s sense of wellbeing. But, there are recognised impacts of stress in patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s which make it even more important to do so.

The effect of stress on people suffering from dementia can be profound. Reactions to a situation can be heightened and enhance feelings of distress and confusion. With Alzheimer’s, reactions may display as a more subdued depressive like state.

Regardless of the presenting symptoms, keeping our residents engaged, happy and feeling secure is what we strive for at our dementia care home in Worcester. Keeping stress at bay is important for all of our residents and so the pamper days play an important role in helping us to achieve that feeling of relaxation.

And that feeling of wellbeing is not just transferred to our residents. The pamper day team say they always enjoy spending time with our residents. They get to make them feel wonderful and treat them to something special. At the same time, the therapist team get to enjoy getting to know our residents and enhancing their day with a bit of fun pampering.

After all, a girl still likes to look good, doesn’t she?!

Yours,
Richard White
