This blog forms part of my recently commissioned series of videos showcasing the philosophy and daily life at Stanfield Nursing Home. In this article and accompanying video, Sarah shares her story in her Worcester care home review.

Hi, my name’s Sarah and I’m here today to talk about my experience of when my father was diagnosed with dementia.

When he was first diagnosed with dementia, it was a huge shock to the family.

At first, we weren’t sure of the implications of the disease.

He seemed okay, a bit forgetful, but we didn’t really have any idea of what to expect as the disease progressed.

At first, we were very keen obviously to keep him at home.

My mother was very able to look after him in a home environment, but obviously as the years progressed we realized that he was getting worse and we slowly came to the realization that we would have to find some professional care for him.

The most important factors for us really, in looking for the right care home Worcester for him to go to, were first of all his own happiness, his safety, his comfort.

We needed to make sure that it was environment that he’d be comfortable in.

He was beginning to feel confused in his own environment at home, so it was important for us to find somewhere that he was happy in and also that my mother could go and visit regularly, so location was important.

Also, we just had to make sure that the place felt right for him. We wanted to make sure that when we walked into the home that it felt right.

There was an ambiance about the place. The staff were caring, kind, professional, there was the right mix of professional care and I suppose personality.

The staff clearly knew how to cope with dementia, obviously fully trained.

There were certificates around the place that showed that dementia care was high on their priority list.

Seeing that the home obviously caters for dementia patients, and has won awards, was very important to us because we did need that mix of professional care and understanding of the disease.

Certainly, we were made to feel very welcome and very confident that it was the right place.

We were made to feel that we could visit anytime and that was again really important to us.

Early morning or late at night, it was never an issue.

We could just turn up and that was important that we had that level of contact that we needed.

My family live away, so they were able to go at different times as well and visit.

That was really important to us as well.

Worcester Care Home Review | Sarah’s views on Stanfield

I really would recommend Stanfield Nursing Home.

As a child as of someone who’s gone through a disease such as dementia, I know how it feels, I know how worrying it is, and I know that the most important thing is that they are happy where they are.

Knowing that they’re well looked after gives a huge amount of comfort to the family in very difficult times.

Having a parent with dementia, I do understand now from personal experience how important it is to find the right place for a parent to be cared for.

And, because of their excellent work I have to say that I was very happy to make this Worcester care home review to recommend Stanfield.

The care, the attention, the professionalism, everything combined in such a happy environment is just wonderful.

I’d like to thank Sarah for taking the time to make her Worcester care home review.
